I'm an ABC voter (anything but Conservative--especially Poilievre), so this is good news.
However, I'd much rather a Liberal minority government than a Liberal majority government; in fact, no matter what party is in power, I'd prefer a minority government.
Majority governments have almost unlimited power, and that power can go to their heads; it's the nearest thing to a dictatorship parliamentary government allows.
On the other hand, minority government requires co-operation with one or more other parties--this means that the needs and wishes of a larger portion of the voting public receives attention. At the same time, the co-operating party/ies know more about what the government is up to, which reduces the opportunities for political corruption.
Trust me when I tell you that if Canada has to actually engage in a war against the USA we are going to want to have a majority government in office. During war time there is NO time for negotiations with a supporting party, because hundreds of decisions need to made every day and on the fly.
Minority Governments are great when there is time to spend working with and negotiating with any or all of the other parties but now is NOT that time.
The government must be agile and decisive during wartime. See the “wartime cabinet” idea for a start. Building relationships with countries that can be trusted to help us fight against a common foe will prove beneficial and has essentially started with Carney’s first two international trips to France and England.
The race in this election is close (ironically as close as the US was). I am in 60s and formerly voted NDP and when Jack Layton lost I couldn’t believe it. So I researched Federal elections and discovered that only Libs and Cons have won Federal elections since 1867. I believe the reason it’s like this is there is approx 30% of voters for both Lib and Con parties that don’t care who the leader is or what the platform is. They just vote the party and some people vote with their family (whatever they’ve been raised to believe)! PP was formerly part of the Reform Party when Preston Manning led it (there’s a new Reform Party) and they realized that their party was causing vote splitting and Liberals won (Chretian). Stephen Harper, Stockwell Day, Jason Kenney, PP and Manning took over the Alberta Conservative Party then PP moved to Ottawa where Ezra Levant (Rebel News) was going to run but instead Stephen Harper did and then former Reform Party took over Fed Conservative Party. If you research cuts Harper made; which PP supported and voted for, you see they are very similar to DOGE cuts. There is a lot of support for Conservatives from people who align with faith based govt. Preston Manning wrote several books about just that. Left leaning parties NDP Green do cause vote splitting and that’s how the Conservatives will win. I have no clue who could replace Jagmeet but he’s led through several elections now. I personally liked him until he started politicking like Conservatives with hypothetical attacks.
Collusion, anyone? I have wondered since the words “51st State” crossed trump’s lips whether the reason he was so confident he could pull it off was because the polls showed Poilievre as the front runner. I have always wondered whether the reason why Poilievre refused to request access to the Foreign Interference documents was because it required a government Security Clearance. Wouldn’t you want to know if any of your party’s members were participating in foreign interference in elections by countries like Russia and China, and interested parties in the United States? Especially when all that American money was donated to fund the truck convoy in Ottawa.
I believe Poilievre is acting out his anti-tariffs, anti-trump position with trump’s full approval and collusion. The first time this seemed obvious was when the polls started to turn and then again when the polls showed the Liberals definitely in the lead and the Conservatives in a nose-dive. Each time trump has said, “Poilievre is being mean to me”. But then he says “that’s okay, I don’t care”. No red face, no invective, no retaliation, no petty little name games, even with a name that would lend itself to that, P.P. And then trump says he would rather go up against the Liberals than the Conservatives and the next day that is Poilievre’s talking point. Almost as if he was prepared in advance?
Canada has historically (since WW2?) meandered down the middle of the political spectrum, tilted slightly left, but routinely wandering into both left and right lanes as needed. I was searching for a specific profile of leadership that I believe fits the needs of the country in this moment.
A telling "critiscm" of Carney from Singh is that " he is nothing more than a Progressive Conservative". Wow, how bad could that be? I believe the times call for fiscally astute leadership with a social conscience, whatever you want to call it. We will have one chance to "get 'er done", and need serious focus on getting results that strengthen the ENTIRE country and that does not leave any Canadians behind. That also means fully enabling the west as it is one of our numerous superpowers - just saying. However, there is no longer a right lane of Conservative Canadian politics that even attempts to be considerate, thoughtful, and aware that you need sufficient income for tax breaks to be consequential. All I read, see and hear is a used Tesla, driven by PP, driving into the right hand ditch, with the radio endlessly looping the same tunes. PP continues screaming whose fault it is that the road moved. Lifetime I have a 100% history of voting Conservative, but not this time as I want Canada to stay on the road.

That depends on which party is the government.
A minority govt will just give PP another circus ring! Why would you be worried about a majority govt? I think the NDP should run a new leader!
Not sure why you say "A minority govt will just give PP another circus ring." Are you assuming a minority Conservative government?
Who would you recommend as a new NDP leader?

I wish he wasn't retiring... but Charlie Angus should have been the leader a long time ago.

The NDP needs a reset. Happy to have the liberals again over a MAGAt.
Still one percent to go!
This! 🥹🙌😁😍 there are not enough emojis to Fully Express How Utterly Thrilled I am!
🙏❤️🇨🇦 Thank you, Fellow Sane Canadians!
Trump is bad for Pierre and maple maga as strange as that sounds.

Not as clever as he thinks. We can see through that lame ruse!
