What's your take on the electoral system in Germany? While it has elements of proportional representation, from what I've read, it ends up first past the post at the party level.

It mirrors the actual vote, so to be that seems fair. But I’m not sure what you mean that “it ends up first past the post at the party level”?

I believe individual MPs are elected from ridings then the parliament is supplemented by MPs drawn from lists from parties receiving over 5% support until the composition of the parliament matches the popular vote. I know there are other PR methods, but I’m not very familiar about the nuances between them.

Sorry, my mistake. It's the individual candidate voting that's first past the post. Then proportional by party share of elected members.
